SBCC Women's Lacrosse Update - Feb 4, 2008

Santa Barbara, CA - The SBCC women's lacrosse team is practicing and competing alongside the UCSB women's lacrosse team. Rather than keep two websites updated this one will serve to alert players, prospective players and all fans that the UCSB website has information for the SBCC team. Go to http://www.ucsbwlax.com and look for everything that pertains to the UCSB 'C' Team. That is the SBCC women's lacrosse team for the 2008 season.

The SBCC team has already competed this year. On a trip to San Diego on February 2nd the Vaqueros completely dominated four year school University of San Diego 19-3 in a scrimmage. SBCC faces a tougher test this Saturday when they play Tricheck Lacrosse Club at UCSB in a 3pm contest at the UCSB Lacrosse Field (aka The Pit).

The team has spots for a few more players. No experience is necessary if you've played other sports. Please contact head coach Stephanie Brenton at
wlaxcoach@sbcclax.com.

SBCC WLAX to Compete Under UCSB Rec Sports - Nov 2, 2007
Santa Barbara, CA - The SBCC women's lacrosse team will compete as part of the UCSB Recreation Department during the 2008 season. Their designation will be UCSB "C" Team since UCSB already carries "A" & "B" teams. UCSB Recreation Director Paul Lee and Club Sports Coordinator Taggart Malone have approved the designation of a UCSB "C" team that will use SBCC students. The Rec Department already has a policy in place that allows SBCC students to sign up for Intramurals and Sport Clubs as well as use the recreation facilities at UCSB, like the RecCen.

The SBCC/UCSB C Team will compete in the WWLL North DII as a provisional member so it may use students from a mix of institutions in the inaugural season. Starting in 2009 the SBCC team will roster only SBCC students in order to be a full member of the WWLL. The league student-athlete eligibility rules require that full member teams use players who are full-time students at the institution they're representing on the field. More information is available in Section VI of the WWLL By-Laws.

SBCC Lacrosse Teams Starting - Sep 19, 2007
SBCC Aerial View Santa Barbara, CA - Men's and women's lacrosse teams are starting at Santa Barbara City College. The two programs are believed to be the first community college lacrosse programs west of the Mississippi. SBCC is a two year higher education institution with a campus across the road from the beach and the Pacific Ocean. The school is famous for it's high transfer rate to four year degree granting institutions, such as UC Santa Barbara. SBCC boasts a Transfer Academy agreement with UCSB that guarantees transfer to the school when specific requirements are met. Transfer agreements are also in place for other University of California and Cal State institutions.

Bobby Ward is the primary contact for both the men's and women's team startup efforts and is the liaison with the SBCC Athletic Director. Contact him by e-mail for more information. Additional contacts for college lacrosse in the area include UCSB Head Men's Lacrosse Coach Mike Allan and UCSB Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Paul Ramsey. All SBCC lacrosse players are encouraged to enroll in the Transfer Academy to fast track their application to UCSB. Prospective SBCC team members should also join the program's Facebook group.

The men's team and the women's team will be club for 2007-08. Both teams are exploring options for league membership in the second divisions of the WCLL (men) and WWLL (women). The men's team has another option and may choose to join an inaugural community college league being put together by Southern California lacrosse guru Mitch Fenton.
